該染料的偶聯物即使在中性pH下也具有強熒光。胺反應性PcBlue NHS ester可用于生成藍色熒光生物偶聯物，激發/發射波長410/455nm，其由405nm藍色二極管（紫色）激光激發。NHS酯與伯胺（例如賴氨酸殘基的側鏈或氨基硅烷涂層的表面）在pH7-9下特異性且有效地反應，形成穩定的共價酰胺鍵。
